Overview

An African Villa is located in a quiet residential quarter of Tamboerskloof and within a short stroll of the centre of Cape Town. Three Victorian terrace houses have been joined together and decorated in a calm, 'African Zen' style, creating an impressive twelve bedroom boutique hotel. Common spaces and bedrooms are very generous. The four owners have a formidable reputation for helpfulness and will happily make tour or restaurant reservations, arrange airport transfers and assist with car rental arrangements.

Arrival information & directions

Address: An African Villa, 19 Carstens Street, Tamboerskloof, Cape Town8001, South Africa

Check-in: 14.00. Check-out: by 11.00.

The hotel is in the central city area which is 20km from the airport. It is generally recommended that guests request a transfer (especially if arriving late at night). There is a bus from the airport, but this involves catching a taxi to the hotel from the lower part of town which can be rather isolated late at night.

Directions if driving (Google Map Directions are rather convoluted!): follow the N2 towards CAPE TOWN and merge onto De Waal Drive which is the second exit towards the M3 (exit 5 - signboard to TABLE MOUNTAIN). After passing under the first pedestrian bridge bear left onto JUTLAND RD – TABLE MOUNTAIN (just before a road bridge) into MILL ST. Continue on this road (it curves to the right after a traffic light) and then pass through another two lights until you see a T-JUNCTION at the top of a hill (BUITENGRACHT STREET). Turn Left here (still towards TABLE MOUNTAIN). At the second road (MILNER RD) turn right and cross one road. Pass The Cape Milner Hotel and turn left into TAMBOERSKLOOF RD and then second right into CARSTNS STREET – the Villa is halfway up this block on your left at No 19. (It is rather discrete – and looks like a normal terrace house so look carefully for the sign on the front gate post).
