Buxted Park Hotel, Nr Uckfield

History

Buxted Park dates back to the 12th century and has been enjoyed as a seat of power and prestige for many of those 900 years. The present house was built almost 300 years ago by Thomas Medley, whose family had been keepers of the Privy Purse in the reign of Henry VIII. Thomas Medley himself had been a renowned barrister, however he made a fortune in his own right by using the opportunity of the war against France to introduce the English to port wine and it was this money that built the beautiful house we enjoy today.

At the beginning of the 20th Century the house was purchased by the renowned designer of the Savoy in London, Basil Ionides. He and his wife were great entertainers and good friends of George V and Queen Mary who were regular guests at house. Over the years, the house has played host to society’s movers and shakers including William Wordsworth, Winston Churchill and Marlon Brando.

Buxted Park is now having a revival under the present owners Hand Picked Hotels. This grand old house is once again a seat of power, where leaders of industry and commerce come to review and decide on future direction, or take an opportunity to recharge batteries.

Food & beverage

Breakfast is a cold buffet selection of cereals, breads, pastries, fruits and cold meats. Fruit juice, bottled mineral water and perfectly brewed tea and coffee are available. All hot food is carefully prepared to order ensuring it is served to your exact taste. The staff take pride in not only asking if you would like your eggs poached, boiled, scrambled or fried but exactly how you like them cooked. Breakfast is served 7.00am-9.30am Monday to Friday 8.00am-10.00am Saturday Sunday and Bank Holidays (an early bird breakfast is available on request)

The Dining Room, take a gastro-pub, add four stars and place it in a magnificent country house hotel and you have Buxted's take on modern British cuisine. Fine, fresh ingredients prepared with passion and served with charm.

The Coat of Arms and Crystal Bar is a special feature of any stay at Buxted Park Hotel. Featuring high ceilings, full height windows with far reaching views of the estate and luxurious furniture all serve to create a sense of grandeur fit for any occasion.

Grounds & Gardens

Set in 312 acres of private grounds and parkland, which includes three large lakes, a deer park and a walled garden. The grounds are fully mapped making them ideal for a leisureley walk.

Bikes are available on site. The hotel offers a small fitness room.  There is complimentary WiFi throughout the hotel.
