Overview

Staying in Collegio Aquilone is a practical and cost-effective way to visit Urbino, the city of Raphael, famous in throughout the world being a World Heritage Site. It is also very well situated for exploring the beautiful surrounding hills of Montefeltro and general countryside which faces the Adriatic Sea. For younger visitors there is also an opportunity to enjoy a pleasant evening in some of the more trendy local bars of the Emilia-Romagna Riviera.

The college was designed by a famous Italian archtect Giancarlo de Carlo, who disagreed with the Le Corbusier model that all rooms should be standardised. It is named after a poem “L’Aquilone” by the Italian poet Giovanni Pascoli, who studied in Urbino and spent a lot of his youth in the forests surrounding the colleges, of which traces still remain. The residence complex has been discribed as a true "citadel", placed harmoniously in the middle of the surrounding countryside, making it a modern projection of the city’s ancient old-town.

The rooms are clean and they have a lot of space. The only thing that was a problem is that no one speaks English on the University so it was a little difficult to explain that we had booked the room. Before we went on the trip we didn't know if the University is in the walking distance of the city center. We wrote a e-mail and got the most kind and polite answer. All together it was a weary good experience!
