Castle House and its collection is a fitting memorial to Alfred Munnings. Lady Munnings worked towards the setting up of Castle House as an art museum as a memorial to Sir Alfred and it contains many of his paintings, in his studio.
Sir Alfred Munnings (1878-1959) was an immensely successful, yet controversial, artist whose career spanned almost 70 years. He was not only a major figure in the great tradition of British equestrian art but also celebrated for his depictions of scenes from English rural life.
