Somerville Hotel, Torquay

History

In the early 1800's the Somerville site was occupied with a cottage and what looked to be a small holding of some kind. Later in the century, a villa was added to the front of the property and by the 20th century The Somerville was operating as guest accommodation in some form or another. It has operated as such ever since. The current owners took over in 2004 and rapidly set about improving and developing the business. In 2004 it gained its first ever grading and just a few short years later was graded at five star with an additional Gold accolade. It has since won Devon B&B of the year twice as well as South West B&B of the year.

Food & beverage

The Somerville has been continually awarded the "Visit Britain's Breakfast Award" for the quality of its food. Guests may enjoy a large continental buffet as well as a significant range of cooked breakfast items during their stay which is included in the price.

There are many cafes, restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk of the property, with recommendations available from the owners.

Grounds & Gardens

Although it is very central, The Somerville is set back from the road and is surrounded by lush sub tropical gardens. At the rear of the property is a secluded terrace and tranquil back garden.

Other facilities

Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available for all guests. All bedrooms benefit from a television with Freeview channels, radio/alarm clock, luxury toiletries, bathrobes, iron & board, hospitality tray, local mineral water and hair dryer.

Guests may also relax in the lounge which is decorated with antiques to read the paper or to enjoy a drink form the bar.
