Aylesbray Lodge Guesthouse, Cambridge

Geschichte

Aylesbray Lodge is run by husband and wife, George and Anna. It was established in 1998. The building was build in the 1930s and is situated near the world famous Addenbrookes hospital and the Medical Research Center. This is where the theory of DNA was first discovered and developed.

We have had a number of prominent scientist and doctors who stayed at the Aylesbray Lodge. A scientist from the Nordic region worked on the cure for Hepatitis C and we shared his “Eureka” moment when he came for breakfast one morning dancing with Joy for discovering the cure. We had geneticists who have been working very hard in helping mankind.

We had the privilege of meeting a world war two n American pilot who was stationed in Cambridge during the war and was able to share with us some of his experiences and pay tribute to some of his friends who have fallen and are buried at the American cemetery just six miles away from us.

Cambridge’s history is long and the people you graduated from here have been able to touch the lives of everyone around the globe. Sir Isaac Newton’s theories, who was at Trinity College, are used in our every day lives, in our cars, airplanes even helped mankind to step on the moon. Darwin revolutionized the way we believe the world was created! John Harvard an undergraduate from Cambridge set up the Harvard University in the US, using the Cambridge system and has been able to provide thousands of Americans with the highest standard of education.

Our cosy dining room offers a substantial breakfast menu to start your day. We offer traditional English, vegetarian and continental breakfasts. To accompany your breakfast, you may have fruit juice, tea or fresh filter coffee.

Breakfast times are 7.30 - 9.00am Monday to Friday and 8.30 - 9.15am at weekends and on bank holidays.

Cambridge is one of the most beautiful cities in Britain and is steeped in history and tradition. Renowned for its beautiful colleges and quaint back street shops it is a great place to visit. A summer punt on the river Cam would truly finalise a memorable experience.

For the golfers amongst you, the well known Gog Magog golf course is only a five minute drive, making Aylesbray Lodge a great place to stay for the many tournaments taking place throughout the year.

A short drive brings you to the fascinating Imperial War Museum at Duxford with Newmarket Racecourse a distance of only 10 miles away. We are ideally situated for access to the M11, A14 and the A10. For anyone wishing to catch a flight, Stanstead Airport is only half an hour away.

Cambridge has restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets and there are a number of varied eating places close to the guest house. A list can be provided upon request
