History to the present day

St Catharine's, or "Catz" as the College is known, was founded in 1473, by Robert Woodlark. He chose a small site next to Kings and a close relationship with that college has been maintained. Originally a small college, it gradually acquired buildings around and was largely rebuilt in the 17th century, with work starting on the Main Court in 1673 and the Chapel being completed in 1704.

Copies of the College history and postcards are available from the Porters' Lodge.

Food and Drinks

A hearty traditional English breakfast is served in the College's Great Hall, from 7.30am-9.00am each day.  On Saturday and Sunday breakfast is extended until 09.30am.

Guests are very welcome to use the fully licensed College bar.

Other facilities

Wireless internet access is available to guests at no extra charge in all public areas and in the accommodation.

There is a small luggage room available, which guests are welcome to leave their luggage in. However, the College cannot be held responsible for any theft/damage to any items left on site.

Coin-operated laundry rooms are available for residents’ use. Ask at the Porters’ Lodge for directions.

Very enjoyable experience overall. Hope to stay again.
Dr (male) Peter P

loved it..
Mr Rupert H

For me the setting in the centre of town was excellent. Also - as a Cambridge MA - to revisit the undergraduate experience was great fun. Going across the court in the early morning sunshine to Hall for a (cooked) breakfast was special. A unique experience!
Mrs Katherine S

Very pleasant experience and I'll definitely look to University rooms again when I need to stay in Cambridge.
Mrs Kerry F

Great value for money, and lovely helpful service from the Porters and other staff.
Mr Adam W

The room was better than I expected with an ensuite bathroom and in that sense was as good as any hotel. Breakfasts were also good overall although there did seem to be a lack of fresh orange juice.
Mr Steven J

I forgot there was no hairdryer in the room, but a great position, close to just about everything, and I hope to be back again next year.
Mrs Tina H

It's pleasant to have a tap in the room and the bathroom and toilets very close. The room opened on a quiet garde. All was very clean. The Porters helpful. Breakfast in the Hall was good and in a very pleasant surrounding. I recommend St Catherine.
Dr Liliane G

I highly recommend this place, you save money and you experience Cambridge at its best. Great breakfast and service, awesome location! Very kind and available doormen at the entrance for information. Would definitive stay here if in Cambridge again!
Mr William S

Everything was just right, my friend from New Zealand had a suitcase which we were pleased to be able to leave while we did sightseeing.
