History

Ffynnon began life as ‘Brynffynnon’, a rectory built in the Victorian era to house the minister serving the 4 non-conformist chapels in the area. The name means ‘Spring Hill’ and is named after the sacred freshwater spring ‘Ffynnon Fair’ (Mary’s Spring) which can still be seen in the woods up the hill.

Although it took 5 years to complete, it’s time as a rectory was limited and it quickly fell into other uses; becoming a convalescence home for WWI soldiers suffering from mustard gas poisoning and then the town’s first cottage hospital. Evidence of this worthy use still remains as the property discovered that the useful ‘workbench’ in the cellar is the original mortuary table.

Ffynnon has been lovingly restored into the beautiful house that you see today.
