History to the present day

Queen Mary has its roots in four historic colleges: Queen Mary College, Westfield College, St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College and the London Hospital Medical College.

The Mile End campus is historically the home of Queen Mary College, which began life in 1887 as the People's Palace, a philanthropic centre to provide east Londoners with educational, cultural and social activities. Queen Mary College was admitted to the University of London in 1915. Westfield College was founded in 1882 in Hampstead as a pioneering college for the higher education of women. In 1989 Queen Mary merged with Westfield College to form Queen Mary and Westfield College. In 1995, Queen Mary and Westfield merged again, this time with two distinguished medical colleges, St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, established in 1843, and the London Hospital Medical College, England's first medical school, founded in 1785. This merger created Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and brought clinical medical and dental teaching to Queen Mary for the first time.

Very good experience. You get what you pay for. Could not fault the place. Very helpful staff. Perfect for a sightseeing visit to London. Would recommend to friends and family.
Mr Gary A

Great value comfy beds and a great location. Would stay there again.
Miss Nia J

Room was fine for the money - good value. breakfast was excellent - and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. Nice to have a fridge in the room - and kitchen / dining room nearby. Location by Canal and Green Bridge very good. Easy to reach West End etc. However - it was noisy at night - all the doors were heavy fire doors - so banged when ever anyone came in late. Lots of pizza deliveries in the early hours. Shame where was no reading light.
Mrs Christine S

Haven't commented on breakfast as didn't take it. It would be good to advertise that a full kitchen with microwave is available but that there are no kettle/ tea making things actually in the room so that guests can plan accordingly. Reception was very helpful and it was an excellent place to stay. Thank you
Ms Anne M

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a bed for a few nights in London, far better value than many of the hotels.
Mr kim L

It is a nice neat place. Great location (near park and not far from a central line tube station). Wonderful full English breakfst.
