Overview

Highcliffe House stands 600ft above Lynmouth Bay with panoramic views of the Exmoor and North Devon coastline. This romantic luxury guesthouse is exclusively for adults offering Bed & Breakfast in the Boutique style.

Stay at this award winning B&B where you can experience the peace and tranquillity of this unique National Park with its wooded valleys, waterfalls and dramatic coastline.

History

Highcliffe House was built circa 1880 by a reputable Victorian architect/engineer, Bob Jones, who also built Lynton Town Hall and the famous water powered Cliff Railway. Originally used as a gentleman’s summer residence, its commanding position within walking distance of the town has stunning sea views across the North Devon coastline from every room that will take your breath away.

Food & beverage

Start the day in the impressive conservatory breakfast room with breathtaking panoramic views of the Exmoor coast and countryside. Help yourself from a buffet with a selection of fresh fruit juices, dried fruit compote, prunes and grapefruit segments plus fresh fruit and quality cereals. Follow the buffet with a home cooked breakfast made with, where possible, locally sourced produce and then let us tempt you with hand cut homemade brown or white toast with marmalade, honey or jams.

Grounds & Gardens

Guests may wish to spend the afternoon or evening sitting on the garden terrace offering magnificent sea views across Lynmouth Bay and the Bristol Channel to South Wales.

Each individually designed romantic bedroom, all ensuite, are furnished with charm and elegance in keeping with the style of the house. All are equipped to a very high standard and provide a level of comfort seldom seen in a Bed & Breakfast. Each room is equipped with a TV, DVD player, clock/radio, hairdryer, and comes with fresh ground coffee and a selection of teas.

There are three exits from the M5 to North Devon,

Junction 23 (Bridgwater) is the shortest in miles but is the longest in time on a winding road that can take over two hours to reach Lynton. Many of the satnav systems will bring you off at this junction.

Junction 25 (Taunton) taking the A358 to Minehead joining the A39 to Lynmouth is a lovely scenic route in the daylight and will take approx. 1 – 1hr 15mins from the motorway depending on traffic around Taunton.

Junction 27 (Tiverton to Barnstable A361 link road) then A399 to Blackmoor Gate and A39 to Lynton – all sign-posted and will take about an hour from the motorway depending on the volume of traffic.
