Le Clos de Saint Seurin, Bordeaux

History

The house was built in 1772 on an ancient Roman road. It is currently located on the path of Compostelle road leading to the Church of Saint Seurin, a church of Romanesque architecture.

The house is composed of three floors and a ground floor which acted as a store in the XVIII century. In ancient times the shopkeepers in Bordeaux always used to live on the first floor above their store.

It is actually from this topographical situation that comes the expression: "To live beyond their means"…which refers to people living above their livelihood. It is an expression originally from Bordeaux which was subsequently distorted.

The facade contains two mascaron ornaments, sculptures representing the faces of unknown persons reproduced randomly in the street by some artists at the time.

Upon arrival at the property you will be received with a welcome drink.

Breakfast is included in the rate and is served at the hours chosen by the guests. The breakfast is composed of a variety of food which is adapted to the origins of the guests. It also includes seasonal fruits.

There are numerous restaurants around Le Clos de Saint Seurin catering for all tastes and budgets: "Influences", Bio: "Very Table" English pub, great French star restaurants and neighbourhood brasseries.

Grounds & Gardens

There is a lovely public garden (English-inspired) in the town center including botanical features, lake and a puppet theatre for children. It is located only 500 meters from the property and is worth a visit.

The French-inspired Parc Bordelais is the largest park in Europe within a city (1 km). Occupying a surface of 12 hectares, it includes a great variety of rare species, a zoo and a playground for the children.
