History to the present day

Merton College, the first fully self-governing College in the University, was founded in 1264 by Walter de Merton, sometime Chancellor of England and later Bishop of Rochester. Mob Quadrangle, the oldest quadrangle in the University, was built in three phases: the Treasury c.1288-91, the north and east ranges and the Sacristy c.1304-11, and the Library on the south and west sides 1373-8. Mob Library is the oldest continuously functioning library for university academics and students in the world. The Gatehouse dates from the early fifteenth century, when Henry V granted a royal 'license to crenellate', which allowed for the construction of the battlement tower above the present-day lodge.

Reservations were very professionally handled and the results were equally good. I would use your services again if I have the chance to.
Mrs Susan H

My overall experience was excellent, and comfortable as could be, all within the beautiful and historic setting of Merton College. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in learning and living at such an interesting academic adventure-land! Thank you very much!
Miss Heather H

Thank you for making this room available for those of us staying after the end of the Oxford Berkeley Summer School.
Mrs Florence G

My stay at Merton was absolutely wonderful!! I enjoyed every aspect. Staying at the college really enhanced my entire conference experience.

I stayed 3 extra nights that I booked with Speedy Booker. The nights of July 18, 19 and August 8th. I enjoyed the room immensely. It was well located for my course, which was at the T.S. Eliot Building, nearby. It was also near the laundromat. There was a kitchen in the Building with a refrigerator. Finally, it was a relatively short and pretty walk to the dining area and the Porters Lodge. Overall, very much thumbs up.

I deeply appreciated being given this ground-level room upon my arrival through the Berkeley Program & Aug.9. Location was a godsend because of my mobility issues. The range of breakfast choices were good so that one was satisfied; eggs usually cooked too tough, unfortunately. Thanks for all.
Mrs SHEILA S

This was the extra night after my 3-week stay here. Scout didn't come in on Aug 7 or 8--may have misunderstood my only telling her not to change sheets that Friday as usual. I DEEPLY appreciated being given this room on the ground floor: it helped my mobility issues more than I can express.
Mrs SHEILA S

The experience was beyond excellent and fantastic. It remains a highlight for me. The people, the course work, the teachers and staff could only be considered well "beyond" any expectation I may have had. Thank you. P.S. If I return, I would like my room 303.
Dr Marilyn R

The light in the sink area is very unsteady and may need replacing. The room was very nice.
