History

Records show that Talbot House was constructed around 1460 with an additional wing added to replace an old barn in 1999. The cottage was once called Rack Farm due to the barn having beams to hand the sheep fleeces from. In the 1700's one of the Talbot aunts came to live in the cottage. With here arrival the name was changed and the front of the building was covered in hand made red bricks to hide the Cotswold stonework underneath. This was often done as a way to show that the person living there was of a higher level than their neighbours! Around the back the original Cotswold stone still shows.  Talbot House is one of the six houses in Lacock village that is privately owned. The cottage is Grade ll listed and is in a conservation area, and is surrounded by fields and lovely walks.

Food & beverage

Enjoy a fantastic full English breakfast, freshly cooked to order and served in the kitchen. Ingredients are sourced from local farms whenever possible, and Talbot House even offer delicious homemade marmalade and jam! Breakfast is served from 7:00am to 9:00am, and is included in the accommodation price.

Vegetarian and gluten-free breakfast are available by prior notice. Please make a note of special dietary requirements in the additional information section of the booking form.

Grounds & Gardens

When the sun comes out, guests are invited to sit outside in the garden under the pagola which is on the raised terrace. From here you can enjoy looking down on the fishpond and at the main garden.  From this area there is a lovely view of some of the old stone rooftops. From the parking area you can see St Cyriac's church spire and the rooftops of Lacock. On some evenings the sounds of the bell ringers practicing can be heard.

Other facilities

There is a large parking area behind a gate which is closed at night. 

There are many wonderful places to explore in the area but having a car is recommended if you want to visit them. There are many books and guides for other places to visit such as Bath, Stonehenge as well as a number of other National Trust places.
