The Ancient Gatehouse is a family-run hotel and restaurant offering a blend of friendly and professional attention in relaxed yet stylish surroundings situated facing the famous west front of Wells Cathedral and the Cathedral Green.

Rooms are special and spacious with en-suite facilities, some with four-poster beds and many with a view of Wells Cathedral Green and the popular western façade of Wells Cathedral. Directions: On entering Wells, follow signs for Hotels, the hotel is located on your left hand side, in the gatehouse of the old city wall opposite the Cathedral.

From M4 – Exit junction 17 signposted Chippenham A350. Follow A350 south past Chippenham in the direction of Trowbridge until you reach the A361 to Frome. Stay on the A361 until you are in Shepton Mallet and then take the A371 towards Wells.

From M5 – Exit Junction 23 signposted Bridgwater. Follow A39 through Glastonbury to Wells.

From A303 – Follow A303 towards Yeovil. Turn right at Podimore roundabout onto the A37 towards Shepton Mallet. Follow the signs for Wells on the A371.

Nearest Train Station: Castle Carey is a short taxi drive away.
