An elegant 17th Century house surrounded by ten acres of its own parkland.

Washingford House is situated six miles south east of Norwich with its wealth of historical Cathedrals, Churches and buildings. Originally built in the 1600s, this elegant Grade 2 listed house stands on the edge of the conservation village of Bergh Apton. Situated amid the typical agricultural landscape of South Norfolk, the house is surrounded by ten acres of its own gardens and parkland and is a favourite haunt for many native birds. There are walks locally and the Wherryman's Way twelve circular walks are close by. Guests are welcome to use the tennis court and bicycles. There is also a trampoline for the more energetic among you!

There is one twin room with an en-suite bathroom and a single with its own bathroom next door. There is also another twin room available with a toilet and basin next door but the shower is a walk away and up another floor - guest dressing gowns provided!

History to the present day

Washingford House is a Grade 2 listed country house of Tudor origin. The colour washed brick building is now mainly Georgian and Victorian but 16th century features survive in the bricks of the inglenook fireplace with oak bressummer and side seats. There is a distinctive mark in the bressummer intended to ward off witches! Guests will have breakfast in this room or on the terrace leading from it during the Summer months.  One of the decorative octagonal chimney stacks also dates back to this period.

Food and Drinks

Although dinner is not available at the house, there are several excellent pubs nearby and many good restaurants in Norwich.  Breakfast is taken in the sitting room which faces South and on the terrace during the Summer months. There is always plenty of fresh fruit, a cooked breakfast sourced locally and home made jams and marmalade.  Special requests can always be catered for.
