HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN YOUTUBE ADVERT
Following the success of our new YouTube advert for UniversityRooms, we thought we’d share just how easy it is for businesses to create their own. This is an inexpensive yet targeted and effective method to promote your brand and company.
1. Why use video to advertise?
Think about it. How much do you already spend on advertising? Are you actually reaching your targeted audience? Do you even know if you are engaging with your current and potential customers correctly? Video amplifies your message and brand in a highly successful manner that is becoming increasingly popular. Using sight, sound and motion your brand can be convincingly conveyed in a way traditional advertising simply cannot compete.
2. Why use YouTube?
In fairness, there are many other video creation sites, some of which are superb. However, after some research we decided YouTube’s Director Onsite was the one for us; it is a quick, economical and professional solution for our videoing needs.
Firstly, for as little as £350 a professional cameraman will shoot and edit your video on the same day in either London or Manchester. You work alongside a trained filmmaker who’ll advise you over the phone how to write and improve areas of your advert script and then visit your business or meet to shoot your ad. The filmmaker then edits your video, and once you’ve approved it, the filmmaker uploads it to your YouTube channel (don’t worry if you don’t have one, an advisor will help talk you through creating a channel). Finally, a Google consultant will help you set up your YouTube ad campaign to ensure your target audience are reached.
The filmmakers are all trained by Google and know exactly what is going to work and how to make it work in what is essentially only a few hours of script writing, filming and editing for an entire video.
Secondly, we used YouTube as you’d be mad not to. According to their statistics page: YouTube has over a billion users–almost a third of all people on the Internet–and every day, people watch hundreds of millions of hours of YouTube videos and generate billions of views.
· YouTube overall, and even YouTube on mobile alone, reaches more 18-34 and 18-49 year-olds than any cable network in the U.S.
· More than half of YouTube views come from mobile devices.
· YouTube has launched local versions in more than 88 countries.
You can see why we thought this would be a good place to place our video ……
3. So how do you make an advert?
Remember this advert should last a maximum of 40 seconds. Simply go to their website and follow their instructions! Look at the video templates they provide and consider which one appeals to you and will most reflect how you wish to convey your story.
You will use the template to story board your advert with a rundown of shots and voice over dialogue. The template will give you an approximate run-time based on your dialogue length and you can therefore edit accordingly. Once you’re happy with this, book a time for you and your designated filmmaker to meet and film your ad!
Two tips: If you’re needing a voice-over artist – look on line. There are plenty of freelance artists on line and the YouTube Music Library is a great site to download copywrite-free music.
4. How to measure and analysis your YouTube video results
Thankfully the good folks at YouTube have built analytics into their site so you can view how your advert is really performing. And as it’s in your control, you can change times of the day you’d like your ad to appear and other adjustments to ensure you are making the most from your marketing campaign. Nice.
