Historia

The Midland Hotel, Bradford was built between 1885 and 1890 by the Midland Railway Company.

The Hotel was a showpiece for the railway company's northern operations, and is of particular architectural interest, with some of the finest Victorian interiors in the city. It still retains some of these fine Victorian features including the Victorian Passageway with its floor to ceiling Burmantoft tiles.

The quality ornate plasterwork in the Princes and French Ballrooms is rivaled only by similar examples in London. The high ceilings, glittering chandeliers and the architecture of the building is both breathtaking and inspiring, blending to make you appreciate the opulence of an era unfortunately long past.

There is a significant amount of history attached to the Midland Hotel, Bradford due principally to the fact that it played host to the rich and famous during its heyday, including Laurel and Hardy, Paul Robeson, The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. In 1905, the famous Shakespearean stage actor, Sir Henry Irving  died on the main staircase after his appearance at the nearby Theatre Royal. He was attended by his manager Bram Stoker, better known as the originator of Dracula. A small plaque erected in Reception records the stay of another great entertainer, George Formby who performed at the Alhambra Theatre from 23rd to 28th September 1940. Almost every Prime Minister up to Harold Wilson stayed in the hotel.

and working with Bradford City of Film and the magnificent Alhambra Theatre we are proud to host many Famous people from Film, Television and Stage.

The Midland Hotel, Bradford has extensive dining from 7.00am with Full English or Continental Breakfast in the Restaurant or Room service, to mid morning snacks to Lunch in one of two Bars, or indeed the Restaurant. Traditional Afternoon tea is available in the Foyer Bar and Lounge with a la Carte Dinner from 6.30pm.

The Midland Grill Room

Located in the ever popular and majestic Midland Hotel, the Midland Grill Room Restaurant's style is one of a traditional dining venue, with elegant high ceilings, tailed curtains and crisp white linen.

Head Chef Simon Thomas provides a superb menu of contemporary British cuisine served with flair and imagination. Enjoy a wonderful meal of freshly prepared food and a relaxed atmosphere.

Lunch and Dinner menus change weekly and the dishes are a collaboration of ideas and inspiration from our brigade under the guidance of Simon.

The recent 2 course Business lunch, with guaranteed 1 hour service, has proved popular not only for the great value at £9.95.

Dinner service provides a choice of the fixed price £18.95 and a seasonal a la Carte menu encompassing all that is good from fresh, and as far as possible local produce.

The Midland Hotel, Bradford has 90 spacious Bedrooms, with a mix of Executive, Premium and Standard accommodation, with two Luxurious Four Poster Bedrooms.

New for 2010, our contemporary designed, luxuriously appointed Executive Bedrooms, complete with 32" flat Screen TV, FREE Wireless broadband internet access and Power Showers. Luxury Toiletries, Bathrobes and slippers come as standard.

The Midland Hotel has two Four Poster Rooms, uniquely designed with a blend of Traditional features in the bedrooms and Contemporary Bathrooms. Bathrooms include His and Hers sinks, Double walk-in Power Shower, Luxury Toiletries, Bathrobes and slippers come as standard. Features include a large 42 inch Flat Screen TV, CD and DVD Player, as well as an iPod docking station on the Sound System. More traditional features are the ‘Roberts’ Radio by the bed, a useful large Iron and Ironing board, Selection of Teas and Coffees, and Mini Bar.    

The Midland Hotel has 24 Premium Double bedrooms including the recently purpose built fully equipped Disabled Room. Premium Bedrooms are complete with Black Marble tiled Bathrooms, with Superb Power Showers. The Premium Upgrade package is available when booking these rooms. Contemporary in design these rooms also boast Mini Bar, Ironing Centres and Trouser Press.

The disabled Premium bedroom has many additional features including remote control door opening, roll-in Power Shower, wooden floor, Medical Fridge and Safe, Remote control curtains, Flashing Alarms, and Large scale telephones. All bedroom literature including Restaurant and Room Service menus are in Braille.

The Midland Hotel with its Victorian history boasts larger than average Standard Bedrooms all with Double or Twin beds. Some of the largest rooms have 2 Double Beds and with an Interconnecting facility can be used as a Family Suite.

The Midland Hotel has a number of designated Smoking rooms in a separate corridor, both Standard and Premium room types.

Upgrades to Executive/Premium packages can be made upon arrival. An Automatic Upgrade to a Lady Executive Package is available for the Lady Traveller which includes: Select Toiletries, Bathrobe and Slippers, Hairdryer with diffuser, glossy magazines and pre allocated first Floor bedroom (package subject to availability)
