Histoire

Often referred to as England’s Oldest Hotel, we hope you enjoy your stay with us in this historic and glamourous atmosphere and we look forward to hosting you. Our hotel and the historic, vibrant and charming Market Town of Malmesbury are steeped in rich history. Built to a Saxon road plan on the site of a 2,800 year old Iron Age hill fort, local places to discover include the 12th Century Abbey next door to the hotel, exhibits in the Athelstan Museum, the Market Cross dating back to 1490, the world famous Abbey House Gardens and more. Interesting old Malmesburians include the first king of all England, King Athelstan who reigned from 925 to 940, Eilmer the Flying Monk, Thomas Hobbes – considered the founder of modern political philosophy, William of Malmesbury the first English historian and Walter Powell MP who vanished at sea in a hot air balloon in 1881.

Our Hotel is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion, whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, cocktail party or just a lovely reason to get together.

Let our talented Head Chef, Frédéric Fetiveau create delicious Modern British food & classics for your guests.

Choose drinks with drama from our extensive Bar menu with expertly mixed cocktails and hand-picked fine wines and champagnes.

On lighter days and summer nights our garden and terrace is a great space to begin your celebrations and we can even barbecue.

The Refectory: Open 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 9pm on Saturdays and Sundays. 

Breakfast: 7am to 10am Monday to Friday and 8am to 10.30am on Saturdays and Sundays.

Brunch: 10am to 12pm on Sundays only.

Lunch: 12pm to 4pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm to 3pm on Sundays.

Dinner: 6.30pm to 9pm.

Afternoon Tea: Every day from 12pm till 6pm.

The Bar: Open every day from 11am to 11pm and 11am to midnight on Saturdays only.

Espaces verts et alentours

The cosy bar boasts a unique stone fireplace, while the AA Rosette-awarded restaurant has a fresh new feel. In the guest rooms, exposed wooden beams, sleigh beds and freestanding roll-top baths add to the overall character. To the rear is a delightfully sheltered stone courtyard – a real suntrap in the summer months.
