GET THOSE ZZZZ’S: 10 TOP TIPS FOR A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP

Torniamo alle ispirazioni

Struggling to get some shut-eye? Fear not, SpeedyBooker has combined a list of the top ten things you can do for a better nights sleep, whether you're at home or a hotel!

1. Get into a routine

Most experts agree that one of the best things to help you get a better sleep is to have a regular bedtime routine, so make sure you’re always going to bed and waking up at a similar time each day. If you’re worried about disrupting your routine whilst being on holiday, some experts recommend making your hotel room look a little more homely by bringing a photo or your favourite mug.

2. Turn off your phone

Recent studies have shown that the ‘blue light’ given off by phones and laptops prevent our brains from releasing the hormone that tells us it's night time.  By switching off and avoiding electronic gadgets at least an hour before bed you’re on the path to get a good night's sleep

3. Noise and light = bad nights.

It may seem obvious, but light and sound can be very distracting when going to sleep and hotels can be a really hard place to avoid this. Earplugs and eyeshades are a sure way to block out loud noises and light, though they aren’t the most comfortable prevention. If you have a smartphone, try a white noise app which can mask outside noises. If your hotel room does not have blackout curtains or if bits of light are seeping through, use clothes pegs or hair clips to close the gap.

4. Herbal Remedies

If you’re struggling to sleep try sipping on a herbal tea before bed, Chamomile is one of the most soothing. Also, try adding a couple of drops of lavender on your pillows, it's great for de-stressing and will help you nod off.

5. Bed is for sleeping!

It can be difficult when you’re in a hotel to live, work, eat and sleep all from your bed. But try not to! Doing too many activities in one place can encourage your brain to associate your bed with everything but sleep - not ideal.

6. Do not disturb

There's nothing worse than being woken up from a slumber by the knock of housekeeping! If you’re looking forward to a lie in, remember to hang your do not disturb sign on your door.

7. Take a relaxing Bath

Taking a bath before bed can be the ultimate relaxer and it helps you sleep by making the room feel cooler. For the ultimate relaxation, add a couple of drops of lavender oil.

8. Exercise

We don't mean a full-blown workout, but if you know you have difficulty sleeping it may be worth doing a little light exercise in the evening such an as yoga, a walk or a quick swim in the hotel pool.

9. Get everything in order

Make sure when you get into bed there is nothing else on your mind, so if you need to spend a little extra time replying to some emails make sure you do so otherwise you will be up all night thinking about it!

10. And if all else fails try counting sheep!
