Castle House and its collection is a fitting memorial to Alfred Munnings. Lady Munnings worked towards the setting up of Castle House as an art museum as a memorial to Sir Alfred and it contains many of his paintings, in his studio.
Sir Alfred Munnings (1878-1959) was an immensely successful, yet controversial, artist whose career spanned almost 70 years. He was not only a major figure in the great tradition of British equestrian art but also celebrated for his depictions of scenes from English rural life. Visitors to the Munnings Art Museum at his former home, Castle House, can explore the life and work of this prolific East Anglian artist through a series of carefully curated displays, selected from the museum’s comprehensive collection of his work.
