概述

Queen Mary University of London, offers visitors accommodation within its student village bordering Regent's Canal in Mile End, East London.

The bedrooms are arranged in flats of up to 6 rooms with either an ensuite or shared bathrooms.

Mile End is less than a 20 minute tube journey from the West End and is well placed for those visiting the City and Canary Wharf or attending events at the nearby Victoria Park. The Student Village is adjacent to the Regents Canal from where it is possible to walk to the Olympic Park, soon to be 'Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park' and Stratford’s Westfield Shopping Centre.

历史

Queen Mary has its roots in four historic colleges: Queen Mary College, Westfield College, St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College and the London Hospital Medical College.

The Mile End campus is historically the home of Queen Mary College, which began life in 1887 as the People's Palace, a philanthropic centre to provide east Londoners with educational, cultural and social activities. Queen Mary College was admitted to the University of London in 1915. Westfield College was founded in 1882 in Hampstead as a pioneering college for the higher education of women. In 1989 Queen Mary merged with Westfield College to form Queen Mary and Westfield College.

In 1995, Queen Mary and Westfield merged again, this time with two distinguished medical colleges, St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, established in 1843, and the London Hospital Medical College, England's first medical school, founded in 1785. This merger created Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and brought clinical medical and dental teaching to Queen Mary for the first time.

Breakfast is served in the Curve restaurant between 7.00am-10.00am. Guests will have a choice of continental and cooked items along with a selection of hot and cold drinks. Lunch is also available to purchase here on weekdays.

There is a selection of cafes, bars/pubs and restaurants in the local area and Brick Lane, Bow Wharf, Shoredtich and West India Quay/Canary Wharf are also close by for guests that don’t wish to venture further afield.

The Student Village at Queen Mary runs alongside the picturesque Regent's Canal. The Millennium Park, with sports pitches and a nature reserve, is next to the Student Village and popular Victoria Park is a short walk away.

Wireless internet access is available free of charge to guests, ask at Reception for details on how to access the system.

There are two card operated laundrettes on site for guests' use; card purchase is available from reception. Irons are also available from the reception and ironing boards can be found in the flats.

On campus there is a Village Shop which sells newspapers, basic food, drinks and toiletries, open during weekdays. Other shops are open throughout the week just outside the campus along Mile End Road.

There are public pay phones on campus.

Luggage storage facilities are available on site. A charge may apply please ask at reception for details.

I have never stayed in a bad University residence of this type, and this was no exception. It's simple and few frills, but is clean, cheery and hard to fault. The receptionist was lovely and couldn't have done more. Bathrooms are always a little tired, but very clean nevertheless. I had a quiet and very comfortable night here.

Excellent value for a stay in London. Lovely location next to Regent canal for walks to Victoria Park. Good transport links from Mile End. Left luggage service very useful. Friendly and helpful staff.

Nearest Underground Stations:

How to find us: from Mile End underground station turn left out of the Station. At the cross roads continue walking ahead under the yellow bridge. At the next set of traffic lights, cross to the opposite side of the road. To your right you will see Westfield Way and a blue sign for 'Queen Mary, University of London'. From here walk down Westfield Way towards the Student Village. France House Reception is on your right.

From Stepney Green station turn left and continue walking for 10 minutes until you pass the Queens Building on your left, keep walking for 200 metres. To your left you will see Westfield Way and a blue sign for 'Queen Mary, University of London'. From here walk down Westfield Way towards the Student Village. France House Reception is on your right.

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) links Lewisham in the south with Stratford in the east, Bank in the City and London City Airport. The nearest stations to the College are Bow Church and Limehouse, both within one mile (1.5km). Trains run to historic Greenwich home of the tea clipper Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory.

By Bus: There are several bus routes serving different areas of London all within five minutes walk of the College. There are also two 24 hour buses that stop at Mile End (25 & 205) allowing you to enjoy London's nightlife without the cost of an expensive taxi ride back to the College. Timetables are listed at the bus stops.

By Air: Stansted is 46 min from Liverpool St Station (Metropolitan, Circle and Hammersmith and City lines). Heathrow is 15 min from Paddington Station (Circle line). Gatwick is 30 min from Victoria Station (District or Circle lines). London City is 20 min via DLR (Limehouse or Bow Church stations).

By Car: Located on the A11, Queen Mary is less than 5 miles (8km) from Trafalgar Square and Oxford Circus. The College is only 8 miles (12km) from the M11 motorway which makes it the perfect base for day trips out of London, being only one hour drive from attractions such as Cambridge and Leeds Castle in Kent. Please note that unfortunately we have no overnight parking available for guests.
