Overview

Blackwater Trout & Salmon Fishery (formerly known as Ballyduff Bridge) has 5 miles of prime salmon fishing on the Blackwater and has numerous beats on the lower and middle/upper Blackwater. Prime fly runs with holding pools throughout. The fishery is located 10 miles from the town of Fermoy and 5 miles from the heritage town of Lismore.

The fishery has exclusive fishing rights on an enviable selection of the best beats on this superb salmon river. The beats have been carefully chosen to offer anglers a variety of water. The huge extent of the fishery means that the angler can follow the runs of salmon from the lower beats in low water conditions to the upper river when they run through in high water.

The fishery currently comprises 10 beats in total spread over approximately 60km of the river - offering fishing suitable for all river conditions. There are six beats on the lower river starting just 7km above the tidal limit, and a further four beats on the upper river between 45 & 55km upstream from Ballyduff. A car is therefore essential due to the extent of the river covered by the fishery.

Here are a few more points. No over-crowding: it is seldom allowed more than two rods per beat (fly-only) or four rods for spin-fishing. Wading is very easy, mostly over an even gravel bottom. Sunday Fishing is allowed (unlike Scotland). Daily beat rotation. You fish a different beat each day unless conditions dictate otherwise.

Your beat is selected from the best beats available considering the prevailing river and weather conditions, and the number of rods fishing. In peak weeks, your allocated beat alternates between the upper & lower half of the river in order to ensure that all guests enjoy an equal variety of sport. You are allocated your beat in the evening for the following day or on the morning if required. In the event of rapidly changing river conditions, this may be deferred to early morning on the day of fishing. Detailed beat maps laminated in plastic are provided to take to the river. Beat entrance location is provided by dropped pin on mobile phone.

A few other notes. No shrimps or prawns. Beats are all easily accessible from parking. Easy wading, no boats allowed. State salmon licence must be purchased prior to fishing and all rules from IFI must be followed. Small tackle shop on the fishery for all your needs. Spey casting and guided days from professional guides available to you.
