Overview

The Tweed Foundation, Tweed Proprietors, the Wheelyboat Trust and many others have supported the development of bespoke UK fishing boats for the disabled and elderly for use on large salmon rivers.

Anyone in a wheelchair or who is infirm or unsteady on their feet can fish for salmon and sea trout on many beats of the main stem of the Tweed from Melrose down to Horncliffe.

The boats are also available for elderly anglers who might feel unsafe sitting on the traditional high seated Tweed boats without support. The Tweed Foundation can provide wheelchairs for those who do not normally need them but might require them for safety and comfort of fishing.

For more details of how the boat operates and how to book it please contact the Tweed Foundation.

You don't need to be an expert to fish for salmon on Tweed, but some casting experience with a double handed rod is desirable to enable you to get the most enjoyment from your visit.

A skilled boatman will be available to row the boat and provide you with helpful tips and to entertain you with tales of the river and of the fish that got away! You are very welcome to bring your own helper for the day but accomodation on the boat is restricted to the rod and the boatman.

It is strongly recommended that you telephone your boatman or the Tweed Foundation the day before your arrival in order to finalise the meeting location, also to check that the river is not unfishable due to floods etc., and for final advice as to appropriate fishing tackle for the prevailing conditions.
