Originally a 16th century coaching inn and sitting opposite the village green, it has evolved into a true country pub. Owners Penny and James have gradually updated and improved the property with a sympathetic touch over the past 14 years with a stylish mix of furnishings old and new to create a very pleasing environment.
A free-house with a choice of local real ales, the pub has a good and eclectic mix of locals and destination diners. You can choose to eat in the pub restaurant with the work of Sussex artist Eric Ravilious hanging on the walls, the bar, the Botanical room complete with botanical prints or the light and airy Garden room – each has a different feel. The wood burner in the bar is a warming comfort during winter months and for summer days there is a patio overlooking the village green where you can watch the sunset and a pub garden for alfresco dining at the back. A recent addition is the four beautifully appointed rooms over the pub for overnight stays.
