Old Mill Farmhouse, Fron Oleu Farm, lies mid-way between Porthmadog and Dolgellau, in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. The name Fron Oleu (pronounced 'Vron Ol-eye') means ‘light on the hill’ because of the beautiful late afternoon sun which bathes us in golden light.
The old farm buildings have been attractively converted, sleeping up to 19 guests in self-contained double, twin and family accommodation, all on the ground floor. Each one has its own TV, hospitality tray and en-suite shower room, with its own front door opening onto the courtyard - very useful for late arrivals or people with pets. One family room has a ‘wet room’ and is suitable for small groups, families or wheelchair users. During the Covid pandemic, to make sure all our guests are safe, we are serving a take-away breakfast in a box, for you to enjoy in your own room. There is ample parking in the courtyard and complimentary wifi is available.
Relax in our pretty garden overlooking the lake and mountains or watch our fascinating extensive model garden railway, based on the Denver and Rio Grande railroad; we run the trains after breakfast, weather permitting. Animal lovers enjoy meeting our llamas, Tilly the goose – and the chickens which lay tasty free-range eggs for breakfast.
From this ideal position you can easily travel north to Snowdon, west along the Lleyn peninsular, east to Bala or south to mid Wales. Locally, we’re 5 minutes drive from the mountain bike trails at Coed y Brenin Forest and 20 minutes from Llechwydd slate mine and zipwire.
So whether you like adventure, mountain biking, fishing, walking, bird watching, photography or just visiting new, exciting places, it’s all within easy reach. Pets welcome by arrangement.
We look forward to welcoming you.
