Fleece Inn, Bretforton

历史

Built in the time of Chaucer, the Fleece has many stories to tell. It houses one of England’s oldest collections of Pewter amongst many other traditional features such as the open fire places and a medieval thatched barn where weddings and functions are often held. The Inn was originally a medieval farm house, with farm animals occupying one end of the building and the yeoman family living at the other. It became a village inn in 1848, a role it still fulfills.  

Bequeathed to the National Trust by Lola Taplin in 1977, the last of the Byrd family who originally built the house centuries ago, the Fleece was almost lost in a tragic fire in 2004. A massive renovation of the building followed and the Fleece was restored to retain its integrity and traditional features.

Full English breakfast included. The Fleece is no longer just the watering hole of times gone by, its ever growing popularity as a restaurant and wedding venue entices visitors from far and wide. Offering traditional English cooking, using locally sourced ingredients and the many traditional ales and ciders, some of which are made on the premises, make The Fleece an ideal place for a special occasion or a light lunch.

During the winter the open log fires in all three dining areas create a truly welcoming and relaxed atmosphere whilst in the summer months the pub becomes a hive of activity. Diners can enjoy the sunshine in the apple orchard whilst the children make the most of the play area.

The village of Bretforton is a picturesque Cotswold village, with St Leonards Church just outside of the pub and quiet country lanes to wonder down Bretforton is the ideal place for a quiet stroll after a delicious meal.

The Barn houses many musical performances. With our history firmly rooted in English traditions, there is often a folk gig or two each month and once a week the locals get together and demonstrate their vocal and musical talents in an open acoustic evening.

The Fleece Inn has held a civil ceremony licence for the past 7 years and is becoming an ever more popular venue for wedding celebrations. Nestled in the rural village of Bretforton the location is perfect for your special day.
