Robert Ellison, Sheriff and Member of Parliament for Newcastle, and his descendant Henry Ellison added their own personal twists to the manor to make it the grand building that stands today. With time, the building fell out of use as a residence and has since been used as a church, an infirmary and even a masonic temple.

Recently, the building has been roused from its slumber and restored to its former glory; incorporating seven large apartments.
