This is an attractive beat lying between Movanagher weir and Culliff Rock, just north of Kilrea.
It is under the day to day control of the Movanagher Angling Club, but there are 2 rods reserved each day for visiting anglers which may be booked through this website. See Availability link.
This beautiful streamy beat contains a substantial stretch of the old unaltered riverbed and presents excellent fly fishing opportunities. There are 5 pools and wading is feasible but care needs to be taken. This Beat is mainly a sea trout and trout fishery. Salmon will come into the beat, but tend not to stay on the beat for long. Extent: 0.5 mile fishing from Movangher weir downstream to the DCAL Fish Farm.
The dry fly fishing for brown trout, particularly sedge fishing on summer evenings, can be very exciting and trout up to 8lbs in weight have been caught on this stretch.
The salmon fishing can be first rate, particularly if the water is low and fish linger in the area prior to running the weir.
