The Hollybush, Newport

Through the leafy lanes from Lower Machen, over the bridge, into Draethen and there The Hollybush Inn is. Surrounded by lovely trees and shrubs, and with the sound of the babbling brook you are in for a quiet and relaxing time.

Originally owned by Lord Tredegar, the two hundred year old pub is set in an ideal location for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Just a footstep away from some of the region's most beautiful woodland, the accommodation is also within easy reach of the cities of Newport, Cardiff and Bristol and just seventeen minutes from the M4. The historic Tredegar House is one of the architectural wonders of Wales and one of the most significant 17th-century houses in the whole of the British Isles. Situated within 90 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland, this delightful red brick house provides an ideal setting for a fantastic day out and is just fifteen minutes away.

This family run establishment has a private room to rent in a separate building set just 20 metres from the entrance to the beautiful pub. The comfortable room comprises a double bed and a double sofa bed, has BBC and ITV TV channels, a kettle, small fridge, and hairdryer. Guests will also be provided with complimentary breakfast basics including tea, coffee, cereals, milk, croissants, jam, biscuits and fruit, and of course have full access to the pub itself including home cooked pub grub and Italian themed restaurant dishes. The private bathroom is large and comprises of WC, sink and a bath with a shower. Towels are provided, and free WiFi is available in the main pub building.

The pub has a fantastic reputation for meals prepared by head chef Roberto, which can be eaten in the cosy bar next to the roaring log fire or in the restaurant situated on the second floor. Meals are available Tuesday to Friday 12 - 2 and 5 - 9, Saturday 12 - 9 and Sunday 12 - 4. Takeaway and other dining options are nearby for the nights our kitchen is currently closed.
