The large villa was built as a home for the wealthy Hartlepool merchant Thomas Walker. Following Walkers death, the property was used as a convalescence home until 1929 when it was converted into a hotel.
The building is of brick construction, painted and rendered, under a mixture of pitched and hipped roofs of slate. Its eclectic styling consists of several sections, including a main central section to the front of two storeys with attics and cellars.
The hotel now offers what is arguably the best venue in Hartlepool for entertainment and relaxation.
