That during the winter period from 6th October 2025 to 3rd February 2026, our B&B will operate on a room-only basis on Mondays and Tuesdays, with the bar and restaurant closed on these days.
The Old Mill is a converted Mill House set in peaceful countryside, nestled in its own valley within 100 acres of County Durham’s scenic landscape. Located between Consett, Lanchester, and a short drive from Durham City and Newcastle, it offers year-round relaxation and beauty. Whether for a romantic getaway, a fairy-tale wedding, or Sunday lunch, The Old Mill provides a charming retreat.
Set against stunning countryside views, our restaurant serves fresh, homemade dishes using locally sourced ingredients seven days a week. Our light-filled conservatory offers views of wildlife and the surrounding landscape, creating a relaxing dining experience. The neighbouring bar, with its traditional log fire and wooden beams, provides a cosy spot to unwind after a day exploring.
Guests can enjoy outdoor drinks by the stream, watching ducks and listening to the water, or indulge in a candlelit dinner for two. Afterward, relax in one of our luxurious rooms with a bubble bath and a glass of wine.
The restaurant is open from 12:00 to 20:00, except Monday when it is closed all day. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we serve from 12:00 to 20:30, with extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday hours are 12:00 to 17:00. Our menu includes Sunday roasts, afternoon teas, lighter lunches, sandwiches, and an à la carte selection made from local ingredients. Children are welcome with smaller portions and dedicated menus.
Each of our six unique suites features original character, en-suite showers, Freeview TV, and tea/coffee facilities. Wi-Fi is available in the bar and limited connectivity
