Geschichte

Regent's Park College was built in the late 1930s - 1950s, having previously been located in London from its inception in 1752. The college has many interesting and unique Art Deco features, a spacious quadrangle, and distinctive Virginia Creeper - the leaves of which turn a deep red colour in autumn. The apartment is situated in 56 St Giles, a Grade II listed building, built around 1800. For all of the nineteenth century, the property was both the business address and residence of a succession of grocers and tea dealers. J. R. R. Tolkien lived in the adjacent house, also part of the college, which has now been remodelled, for two years after returning from the First World War.

Essen & Getränke

The property is offered on a self-catering basis, so guests can prepare everything from a simple breakfast to a full evening meal. The accommodation's kitchen includes a gas hob, gas oven, microwave, fridge and freezer, and there are a range of grocery stores nearby.

A short walk leads to a wide choice of cafés, restaurants and traditional pubs around St Giles, Little Clarendon Street, Jericho and the city centre.

Grundstücke und Gärten

Residents will have access to the college's Main Quad, where the resident tortoise roams freely during the summer months. The College is also a short walk away from The University Parks, which are open to the public.

Anreiseinformationen und Wegbeschreibung

Adresse: Regent's Park College, Pusey Street, Oxford, OxfordOX1 2LB, Großbritannien

Regent's Park College Pusey Street Oxford OX1 2LB United Kingdom

By car

  • The college is in central Oxford off Pusey Street, just north of the High Street and off St Giles. From the A34/A40 ring road follow signs for Oxford city centre/High Street and then follow local signs to St Giles/High Street.
  • Pusey Street is a short, narrow street in the city centre; on-street parking is very limited and often restricted. Allow extra time for city-centre traffic and pedestrianised areas.
  • For easier access, use one of the Park and Ride services on the outskirts of Oxford and continue by bus to the city centre (Gloucester Green). Park and Ride buses and local bus services are frequent and drop passengers into the central area within a short walk.
  • Short-stay city centre car parks within walking distance include Gloucester Green multi-storey car park and Worcester Street car park. These provide the most convenient long- or short-stay parking for visitors to the central area.

By train

  • The mainline Oxford railway station is the closest rail station to the city centre. It is approximately a 15–20 minute walk to Pusey Street, or a short taxi ride.

By bus and coach

  • Gloucester Green bus and coach station is the nearest bus hub, typically a 5–10 minute walk to Pusey Street.
  • Local buses that serve central Oxford stop on or very near St Giles, Cornmarket Street and High Street, all within easy walking distance of Pusey Street.
