Our historic pub dates back to the 1700s and retains many of its original features and character. Ideally located opposite Walmgate Bar, one of York’s most complete and historic gateways, we are perfectly placed for exploring the city on foot. The Shambles, York Minster, JORVIK Viking Centre, York Barbican, city walls and city centre are all within easy walking distance, making us an ideal base for sightseeing, shopping, special occasions or a relaxing city break.
Upstairs, our five individually styled guest rooms have been thoughtfully refurbished to provide a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. We offer a choice of double, king and family rooms, with traditional features including high ceilings and sash windows adding to the charm and character of the building. All rooms have both bath and shower facilities.

Food is at the heart of what we do, with our homemade pies a particular favourite with guests and locals. Our varied menu and daily specials also include fish, steaks and seasonal dishes, offering something for every appetite.
Our bar features local and national cask ales, lagers, beers and craft beers from around the world. Whisky lovers are especially well catered for, with over 70 whiskies to choose from, including a fantastic selection from Scottish distilleries.
