Aperçu

Le Christ's College est une oasis de calme en plein cœur de la ville. Vous serez à deux pas des jardins paisibles et tranquilles, puis franchirez la Grande Porte vieille de 500 ans pour accéder au centre commercial animé. Le Christ's College est l'endroit idéal pour les visiteurs en séjour touristique ou en voyage d'affaires à Cambridge.

Les logements proposés accueillent les étudiants de premier cycle pendant le trimestre. Les chambres ne sont donc pas équipées au standard d'un hôtel quatre étoiles, mais elles sont propres, confortables et situées dans un endroit calme au cœur du Collège. Elles proposent des chambres standard (salle de bain commune) ou avec salle de bain privée (simple, double ou à deux lits).

Toutes les chambres sont équipées d'un plateau/bouilloire ainsi que d'un coffret de bienvenue avec produits de toilette. Les serviettes sont également fournies. Le ménage est effectué quotidiennement par un membre du personnel du Collège.

Veuillez noter que le Collège n'est pas en mesure d'accepter les réservations pour les enterrements de vie de garçon et de jeune fille.

De plus, il n'accepte pas les réservations pour les personnes de moins de 18 ans et par conséquent, l'hébergement n'est pas adapté aux familles ou aux jeunes enfants.

Histoire

Christ's College was first established as God's-house in 1437 by William Byngham, a London parish priest, for training grammar schoolmasters. Shortly after receiving its Royal Licence from Henry VI in 1446, God's-house was forced to move from its original site, as this was needed for the King's new project (what was to become Kings’s College). God's-house moved to its present site in 1448 where it was re-founded in 1505 as Christ’s College by Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII. Lady Margaret has been honoured ever since as the Foundress.

First Court dates from the 15th century and is the oldest part of the College. The Master’s Lodge, Chapel and Hall are all found in First Court as are Charles Darwin’s rooms. Charles Darwin studied here between 1828 and 1831.

Restauration et Boissons

For those rates that include breakfast, it is served Monday to Sunday in the Upper Hall between 7.30 to 9.30am. Please note that not all room rates include breakfast, some are room only - please ensure you book the correct rate for your requirements.

Over the last two years, the College has successfully reduced packaging by bulk buying essentials and removing individual packets of cereal, jam and sauces from its dining halls. Guests now also have a fresh yoghurt bar where diners can make themselves bespoke yoghurt with additional accompaniments, giving greater choice and reducing landfill at the same time!

Espaces verts et alentours

Christ’s College has extensive gardens laid out over four Courts. The Fellows’ Garden, which is open 5 days a week for most of the year, has beautiful herbaceous borders and is home to the famous Milton’s Mulberry Tree. There is also the Darwin Garden, created as part of the celebration of the bi-centenary of his birth, and which features a sculpture of a young Charles Darwin and also the Darwin Walk.

Whilst guests are most welcome to walk through the grounds of the College at all times, they are respectfully requested not to walk or sit on any of the lawn areas around the College grounds.

Should you need the use of an iron and ironing board during your stay, there is an ironing room in the P staircase laundry. There are also washing and drying machines available for use.

The Porters' Lodge has a few hairdryers that can be loaned for a £5.00 refundable deposit.

Internet access, including WIFI is available in all rooms. Rooms will also be provided with an ethernet cable, guests need to bring their own laptop. Details on how to connect to the internet are displayed in the bedroom.

Wonderful stay in Cambridge at Christs College. Porters were very welcoming and friendly. Accommodation was very clean and comfortable and it was lovely to be in such beautiful surroundings. Breakfast was excellent and again the staff were efficient and friendly. Thank you

A very pleasant stay, en-suite shower room was a bit of a challenge but bed was comfortable. Breakfast was excellent as was the service from Alaric in the dining room, such a lovely guy, very welcoming and cheerful. Thank you Alaric.

Really lovely stay! The porters were very kind and informative. A special shout out to Abraham who served during breakfast the two mornings I was there and went above and beyond to help me as a coeliac. Would definitely stay again!

After 11pm a night Porter is on-site to deal with emergencies. The Porters will be pleased to store your baggage following check out whilst you have a last look around the City.

It is regretted there is NO parking at College.

On arrival please check-in at the Porters’ Lodge on St Andrews’ Street. Please show your booking confirmation to the Porter who will provide you with your room key, a map of the College and direct you to your room. Despite the term ‘Porter’, it is not part of a College Porter's duties to handle luggage; you must carry your own luggage to your room.

Also, on arrival at College, all guests will be requested to complete a Guest Registration Document (As required by the Immigration (Hotel Records) Order 1972). Guests will need to give their name, address and nationality. Non-UK guests will also be required the number and the place of issue of their passport as well as their next destination. These record must then be kept for 12 months.

The railway station is approximately a 20-minute walk, or there are various regular bus services which will drop you close to the College. There is also a taxi service available outside the station entrance. The bus station is also located within a few minutes walk of the College, and the National Express buses terminate on Parkside, which is a 5-minute walk to the College.

As the College is a place of study and many of the property's Fellows’ live and works on-site, guests are asked to respect their privacy and conduct themselves in a manner befitting a historic academic institution. All staff at Christ’s College are friendly and welcoming and guests are asked to treat them respectfully.
