Aperçu

Green Templeton College offers the opportunity for a unique stay close to the historic Radcliffe Observatory in one of two onsite guest suites, or alternatively in 1 and 2 bedroom apartments at Rewley Abbey court, which is convienently located a short walk from Oxford Train Station. This is a great option for alumni looking to revisit College as well as an opportunity for new visitors to soak up the unique atmosphere of the Oxford Colleges.

Histoire

Green Templeton College, University of Oxford, was established in its current form in October 2008 through the merger of Green and Templeton Colleges.

From its foundation, its dynamism has come from being a meeting point of the practitioner, professional and academic worlds. It is above all an active and engaged intellectual approach rather than a purely reflective one.

Green College, founded in 1979 on the current college site with support from Dr Cecil Green of Texas Instruments, pioneered the work of medical and applied social science postgraduate students. The first Warden of Green College was Sir Richard Doll (1912–2005) who, in 1950, published the scientific paper demonstrating the clear link between smoking and cancer.

Templeton College’s origins go back to 1965 with the foundation of the Oxford Centre for Management Studies based on the edge of the city. Templeton College was inaugurated in 1984 following support from Sir John Templeton (1912–2008). It established business and management education at Oxford and since its advent has brought together global leaders from diverse fields.

The eighteenth-century Radcliffe Observatory dominates the three-acre college site. The building functioned as an observatory from 1773 until 1934.

You should consider putting newer/better windows in the Walton Suite. Every night there is a food truck going straight outside the window facing Woodstock Road. The audiences buying food from this truck provide a lot of noise, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights, until 4:30am or so. People are loud (may have been at discos playing loud music), but even normal conversations are easy to hear. You should put in a window that stops such noise. I love staying in the Walton Suits, but is noisy!

Excellent location, friendly welcome from the porters. The suite was spotlessly clean, bright, and comfortable. Really handy to have a kitchenette included. We enjoyed ice lollies (on sale from the porters' lodge) in the beautiful college gardens. Just two reservations: the shower was feeble; and, on a hot day, it would have been lovely to have air-conditioning, but we know that this is unusual in Oxford. At least an electric fan was provided. A really pleasant stay - thank you.

The Room at Green Templeton College was really comfortable for a 5 day stay and the porters lodge was very helpful. I was happy to have the small kitchen and it was well stocked with plates, cutlery etc. they had even left tea, coffee, milk, OJ and some porridge for the first day breakfast. Being slightly out of the center of Oxford (15 min walk) meant there wasn't much noise overnight but it was still close to a Bus stop and to Jericho for cafes and the supermarket.

Wonderful room! I felt like I could have stayed there for a week and been comfortable. I really appreciated the kitchen nook that was separate from the rest of the room. We noticed the water pressure was not super high in bathroom shower, but other than I loved staying at Green Templeton!
