Oversikt

Het Rustpunt er en oase av ro og grønt i hjertet av Gent. I dette karmelittklosteret fra 1600-tallet kan du slappe av, lade opp og reflektere. På grunn av sin sentrale beliggenhet er Rustpunt det ideelle utgangspunktet hvis du vil besøke historiske Gent.

For et opphold på Het Rustpunt kan du velge en overnatting med frokost eller overnatting med helpensjon.

I hovedbygningen er det 12 enkeltrom, 6 dobbeltrom, 9 tomannsrom og 1 tremannsrom. Alle rommene er renovert, modernisert og har eget bad. På stedet finner du også gjestehusene «De Kluis» – med et privat kapell – og «Gjestehus Thérèse».

Gjestehusene kan leies for lengre opphold i fullstendig privatliv og ro. Het Rustpunt har flere rom, egnet for seminarer, møter, workshops eller feiringer. For grupper er guidede turer tilgjengelig på forespørsel.

Historie

In 1651 the father Carmelites bought the 'leeuwenmeers'. This area used to be part of the palace of Charles V. For over 15 years the fathers lived in a small building, where the emperor used to keep his lions he won form the battle of Tunis. Plans were made, funds were prayed for and found. In the coming years the monastary was built in different fases.

Late 17th century: the south- and westwing were built with a temporary church. Later the church would be transformed to a magnificent library with over 60.000 books. The northwing (1667), the impressive Carmelite church (early 18th century, regency style) and a crypt were finally added to the domain. After a peaceful time, the French occupied the monastery in the late 18th - early 19th century.

The following years the buldings were rented out, until in 1845 the monastery was once more occupied by its rightfull inhabitants: the Carmelite fathers, who are still inhabitants of the domain. In 19661 the Carmelite church became a classified momument and got completely renovetad.

You can find all kinds of restaurants, bars and cafes within walking distance of the monastery in the beautiful city of Ghent.

Begrunnelse og hager

Het Rustpunt is located in the heart of the vibrant city of Ghent, but you would never notice once on the premises. Within the walls of the monastery, there is a secret garden, even the locals don't know about it.

You will find an idyllic park, with a little pond and picknickbenches. You can go for a stroll and enjoy the peace and quiet.

I could not have enjoyed the stay more. I have traveled extensively worldwide for nearly 50 years. I can clearly state that I have never stayed at a better overall place -- room, service, friendliness, magnificent gardens and buildings, as well as being adjacent to the center of one of the neatest cities in the world. I'd love to return and have already asked my daughter to join me next year to return. As a PS, I have never stayed at one place as a tourist for 2 weeks; this was worth it.

Very memorable visit. Out the door into Ghent Centre, then back into the peace of the monastery. Wonderful buffet breakfast, catering for all appetites. Many guests, but no noise. Access to garden and communal tea/coffee/snack salon most welcome. Just one suggestion: An extra security bar in the shower would be appreciated by senior guests.

Exactly what we were hoping for a gentle oasis in the heart of Ghent. Simple but comfortable rooms. Be aware of mozzies in summer months. Breakfast was excellent. Gardens lovely to sit in. In easy reach of good restaurants opposite the castle. Would definitely recommend for those looking for a chilled experience comfortable but not luxurious

The staff were lovely. Clearly they had had feedback about the mosquitos so they had deterrent plugins in the room. It was a bit more expensive then the going rates in the area so that was hard to justify, but I am glad I stayed. The facility so VERY clean, the staff is helpful and kind and the rooms are extremely quiet and peaceful.

By public transport

  • Train station Ghent-Sint Pieters: Take tram 1 to Gentbrugge or 3 to Moscou, get off at 'Gent Zuid' and take tram 2 to 'Evergem/Wondelgem'. Get off at the 'Gent Sint-Elisabethplein' stop. This is the first stop after the Gravensteen castle. This stop is 50m from the doorstep.
  • From Ghent-Sint Pieters station you can also take tram 4 to Evergem/Wondelgem until 'Gent Rabbot' and take tram 2 from there to Melle. Get off at the stop 'Gent Sint-Elisabethplein'.
  • Train station Ghent-Dampoort: Bus 10 towards Mariakerke Post or bus 11, 12a or 12b towards Gent Blaarmeersen. These will take you to the 'Poel' stop. This stop is 350 meters from the Rustpunt. Leave the Sint-Michiels bridge behind, and walk into Hoogstraat until the first street on the right: Ramen. Follow this street and you will reach Burgstraat. 
  • By car ! Attention ! Rustpunt is located within the low emission zone (LEZ - Check whether your car can enter via https://lez.stad.gent/en/flows/controleertoegang). You can also purchase a day pass or admission. The city of Ghent has an intricate circulation plan for cars. Only use a GPS that has been recently updated.

Parking in front of the church

  • (Burgstraat 46). This costs 9€ per day (until noon) You can park for free at various car parks outside the center (P+R - https://stad.gent/nl/mobiliteit-openbare-werken/parkeren/park-and-ride-pr). A free shuttle bus leaves from P+R Weba / Decathlon and P+R Watersportbaan to the center. You can take tram 1 from P+R Expo. .
