概述

Mellwaters Barn Cottages are a group of 4 Holiday cottages near Barnard Castle and whilst they have quality accessibility features the cottages are for everybody to enjoy. 

The cottages were designed by a wheelchair user who understands the problems of accessibility. The access to the cottages is exceptionally good and the purpose-built footpaths make the farm accessible too so that everyone can enjoy the magnificent views.

The cottages are centrally placed in the North Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty within easy reach of the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Durham, or York, making it an ideal holiday destination. As owners, They believe in making your holiday as relaxed and pleasurable as possible.  The property's personal experience with dealing with disabilities means that everyone including those who use a wheelchair or are less able to walk without help can enjoy a stay at the cottages.


历史

The owners first saw East Mellwaters Farm one snowy day in November 2001. Their son, Andrew instantly fell in love with it and the surrounding area.

The family finally moved in on 1st July 2002. They had always been involved with agriculture on the arable side but going back in time families have always been livestock farmers either in Scotland or Devon.

When the family arrived here there was an old stone-built dairy/granary which was derelict and it was their son, who had always been in a wheelchair, who asked if he could convert this building into holiday cottages. Not just any ordinary holiday cottages. He wanted cottages for both disabled and able-bodied people. Somewhere families and groups could all holiday together.  This was the birth of the accessible and disabled-friendly cottages at  Mellwaters Barn Cottages as you see them today.

With their personal experience with dealing with disabilities, they take great pleasure in welcoming people who may be in a wheelchair or just less able to walk without help. You can view all of the features of accessible cottages to give you peace of mind that the property is a perfect fit for you. They've worked hard to make your stay the best it can possibly be if you or someone holidaying with you is less mobile.

They are  are situated just off the A66 Trans Pennine Road in beautiful Teesdale near Barnard Castle.

They are not on a public transport link due to being in a Rural location. The nearest Buses come to Barnard Castle which is 7 miles away from Mellwaters Barn. There are regular Buses from Barnard Castle to Darlington and Bishop Auckland where there are Train stations. There are Taxi services from Barnard Castle to the cottages. The nearest airport is Newcastle which is a 1hr 15mins drive.
