The guided cycle tour follows the route of the original story-telling of 'Alice in Wonderland' on Thames River Path plus join our popular Alice meets Harry Potter walking tour visiting inside Christchurch- the home of Alice & Lewis Carroll.
Christchurch entrance fee (normal cost £7-£10 per child/adult is included in ticket price as is bike hire (1.4m above).
This tour visits some real Oxford locations which inspired Lewis Carroll to create Alice in Wonderland for young Alice on a famous river-trip, so we follow the route they did with a pleasant cycle by the Thames. Find out about the story behind the story of 'Alice' & what shaped the development of such a famous story.
Nearly all our bike tour bookings end up being private tours, so tours can be customised to your interests and desired pace. Tours last approximately 2 hours walking tour plus 2 hours+ bike tour.
The bikes are provided for your Oxford bicycle tour but if you may require some kind of tandem adult and child combined bicycle, these must be hired privately or you should ask us to organise hire of such bikes at a surcharge fee.
Note that it's not obligatory to wear a bike helmet in Oxford, so helmets are provided upon request.
The tour operator has public liability insurance but please note that customers must understand that they are nevertheless riding at their own risk and to follow the general safety instructions given by the guide at the start of the tour and during the tour. It is also a condition of booking a bicycle tour, that the customer must be familiar with how to ride a bicycle.
Weather in the U.K. is unpredictable and so it is advisable to dress for any type of weather. It is Oxford bicycle tours policy not to cancel bookings due to poor weather unless we decided it was unsafe riding conditions, such as icy conditions. On the day of the tour, if customers request due to very poor weather, to swap the bicycle tour element for a second walking tour, we will consider that option for you or let you rescheduled the bike tour element only to another date.
History to the present day
The storytelling of 'Alice in Wonderland' was the result of a famous boat trip along the Thames led by Lewis Carroll who worked at Christchurch to entertain Alice and her sisters, the daughters of Christchurhc Dean. We will be following that route on bikes along the Thames river path and visiting inside Christchurch
