Overview

The Newcastleton Liddesdale Hotel is located in Douglas Square at the heart of Newcastleton (sometimes referred to as Copshaw Holm); a 17th century village planned by the 3rd Duke of Buccleugh, set in the peaceful, unspoilt countryside of Roxburghshire.

The hotel location combines the relaxing aspect of a remote rural settlement whilst being only half an hour’s drive to Carlisle and the motorway network. Despite the decline of traditional industries, Newcastleton remains a very healthy and vibrant rural economy, assisted by the development of tourism and many new small businesses.

Fully refurbished by new owners in 2008 the hotel is the perfect accommodation while staying in the area. Our three star hotel can offer you excellent food and wine, well appointed accommodation including Wi-Fi Internet and Sky TV in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Whether your stay is just for one night or much longer we are sure you will enjoy being with us.

Newcastleton is an important location to anyone interested in Border Reiver history and has various clan links, particularly Armstrong and Elliot. It also hosts a number of sporting and cultural events.

Covering about eighteen hundred square miles, the Scottish Borders stretches from the rolling hills and moorland in the west, through gentler valleys to the high agricultural plains of the east, and on to the rocky Berwickshire coastline with its secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages.

In the bright spring months, fresh new growth fills the valleys and forests of the Scottish Borders. Enjoy time to spare with the lure of lighter longer summer days or relax in more mellow shades of autumn when mauves and purples tint the moors. Crunch through the crisp frosts of winter, when early morning mist floats over the lowlands, and the snow capped hills sparkle in the distance. Land and sea, hills and moorland all sit happily side by side.
