History

Originally a former drovers inn over 300 years ago it is located at the thinnest crossing point on Loch Awe. The drovers would drive their cattle across the loch to graze or to market.

Taychreggan was 'put on the tourist map' in 1785 when Dr. Samuel Johnson and his biographer and travelling companion James Boswell stayed at Taychreggan on their epic 83 day journey and published "A Journey to The Western Islands of Scotland".

Food & beverage

Breakfast is served between 8.00am - 10.00am in the loch facing restaurant, fresh fruit, yoghurt, homemade toast and preserves, juices and smoothies. Cooked options such as a full Scottish Breakfast, locally smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and porridge are available. Arrangements can be made for an earlier continental Breakfast or packed lunch to take away instead.

Enjoy an Afternoon Tea of homemade scones with chantilly cream and jam or some shortbread in one of the lounges, Orangery or perhaps outside.

The Bar is open all day and has an array of Scottish single malt whiskies, together with a range of Scottish produced beers and ales, the most locally from Oban.

A candlelit five-course gourmet Dinner in the two AA rosette restaurant which overlooks Loch Awe is available for £44.00 per person, using produce from various local suppliers, including dairy, meat and fish. A table d'hote menu is also offered. If you would like to reserve a table for Dinner please add this into the 'Additional Comments' box.

Grounds & Gardens

Most popular are the various benches around the hotel which are perfect for enjoying some afternoon tea or a drink whilst watching the loch go by.

The hotel has its own fishing rights so you can bring your gear along and try to catch your own dinner! Chef will cook your catch for you.

The grounds extend to over 40 acres, most of which is natural woodland. Sightings of Roe Deer are regular in the mornings and evenings as they venture for food.
