Located on the edge of the historic village of Bampton, the Exeter Inn is a delightful destination pub and restaurant with rooms. Originally built in 1495 as a farmhouse, the property retains some of its most beautiful original features, including three cosy log burners, one nestled in the original inglenook fireplace. Our newly refurbished boutique rooms each possess their own charm, thoughtfully named to reflect the rich history of the local surroundings. Several rooms are dog friendly with a flat rate of 15 GBP per stay (maximum two dogs per room).
Our bar offers an ever-changing selection of cask and craft ales, complemented by an extensive range of wines and spirits to enrich your visit and encourage repeat visits. From the kitchen, we take pride in serving a wide variety of traditional English favourites alongside daily specials. Food is available for both lunchtime and evening dining, including our popular Sunday Roast. We recommend booking ahead as we often fill up.
Bampton itself is steeped in history, home to over 70 listed buildings and features, including two iconic red telephone boxes. Visit the local heritage centre to explore the village’s past. The Exeter Inn provides an excellent base for exploring the gateway to Exmoor National Park and beyond, offering access to scenic walks, nature, and authentic Devon experiences. Whether visiting for leisure or family stays, the Exeter Inn blends historic charm with welcoming hospitality in a stunning countryside location.
