History

The first recorded owner of the estate in 1506 was the college of Michaelhouse, Cambridge. The grand family home of Hinxton Hall, built by John Bromwell Jones in 1748, was the first substantial building on the estate and now houses part of the Conference Centre.

In 1953 the estate was sold and developed into a small business facility. It wasn’t until 1992 when John Sulston and Wellcome Trust staff were looking for temporary accommodation for a new genome sequencing centre that the Wellcome Trust became the landlord of the Hinxton Hall Estate. The Campus that was formed became home to some of the most important genetic discoveries of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

The Wellcome Trust meticulously restored the Georgian Hall and transformed the old stable block and kitchen garden into a purpose-built Conference Centre that opened in 1998. The next set of major works was carried out between 2012 and 2015 creating the Conference Centre that you see today.

Food & beverage

The daily breakfast offers continental, buffet or Full English options. Dietary needs can be catered for with prior notification. Please make a note in the "Additional Information" section of the booking form if you have any dietary requirements.

Grounds & Gardens

The Campus grounds are something to marvel at. The 100-acre parkland of Hinxton Hall provides a range of natural spaces, from beautifully curated flowerbeds and lawns, to impressively large trees and a Wetlands Nature Reserve. Attendees at conferences and events here on-site are invited to explore the wonderful outdoor space available.

Other facilities

The accommodation offers a 12-hour front desk, 24-hour security, free WiFi, private parking, and luggage storage for guests. The bedrooms are equipped with a telephone, a flat-screen TV and a media hub. Each room also comes with tea and coffee making facilities, snacks, a hair-dryer and ironing facilities. Guest rooms also include a desk and private bathroom. Should guests arrive and realise they have forgotten any toiletries, a small sample of items and gifts are sold at the Conference Centre Reception.

The room was well appointed and the facilities were great. A well appointed conference venue that I would happily visit again. My only point for improvement would be the pillows within the bedrooms. They are all incredibly firm, a choice would be better (2 firm and 2 softer) to suit personal preferences and avoid neck issues (this was noted within my party of 3 different rooms.)

Great room. Clean and lovely. Loved that there were tea making facilities in the room along with a few biscuits. I did a load of washing which was easy and convenient. The food was great. I think the price of the wine was a little on the high side. I was there for a conference and overall it was a great experience.

I would really like to compliment every staff member I encountered. I was using crutches during my visit and I had help from everyone from reception, dining room staff, housekeeping, AV support and our conference organizers throughout my visit. 5 stars!! Thank you so much.

A very comfortable stay and supported a late check out and arranging a taxi to the station when I was feeling unwell. If I had one suggestion it would be great to have an onsite gym. Many thanks for a nice stay.

Lovely setting. Room was great but v hot especially at night. Food was a bit variable, but the service was good and everyone is super welcoming. Gardens are amazing!
