The Engine Inn is a 17th Century Inn situated in the heart of the south lakes, a mere 15-minute drive to the banks of Lake Windermere.
Despite popular belief the name “Engine” does not in fact relate to trains or other forms of locomotion. The building was part of an old mill (long since gone) which was powered by the water in the adjacent stream. As technology developed the mills owners utilised this building as an engine room which pumped water back upstream when water levels were low. Many of the original features are retained including exposed beams and supports. The latest refurbishment subtly blends these original features with more contemporary décor and furnishings.
These days The Engine has become synonymous with quality Ales, Wines and food; and the current owners philosophy of “Good Food. Good Wine. Good Beer. Great Company!” sums it up perfectly.
