Histoire

St Aldates Building is located on what is probably the oldest street in Oxford. From the eighth century, it would have carried traffic from the Midlands, across the river, towards the south. In the fourteenth century, shops stood on the site of number 117 and at some point in the next hundred years, the shops were rebuilt and the Red Lion Inn occupied the plot until about 1740.

Today's accommodation was built in 1938 as a rather glamorous Art Deco showroom, called Therm House, for the Oxford and District Gas Company.

Restauration et Boissons

A cooked and continental breakfast is available in the unique setting of the Great Hall, Christ Church, with its stunning hammer-beam roof and wonderful oil paintings. Breakfast is self-select, but if you have any queries due to an allergy or intolerance, please speak to a member of staff.

Monday – Sunday: 07:30 – 09:00

Oxford has many places to dine either for lunch, dinner or food on the go – for local suggestions see the information provided in the ‘Guest Information’ booklet in your room.

Great stay, quiet building off the main building. The room was very spacious, functional en suite bathroom. The room had a bit off a musty smell assumingly from the carpet and/or the armchairs. The windows were locked as the room was located on the ground floor. But still a very enjoyable stay. Having breakfast in the great hall and attending the evensong in the cathedral was a stunning experience. Nice breakfast offers from warm to continental and fresh fruit. Don‘t have the coffee though.

We very much enjoyed the experience of staying at Christ Church College, and would love to do so again. The Great Hall was wonderful and the atmosphere of the college was really special. My one disappointment was the room in the St Aldates Building, which was smaller than I expected from the website photos (especially the bathroom). The bathroom fan and especially the bathroom light stayed on longer than needed and interfered with sleep a little. The room affected the value for money score.

I loved my stay in this hostel. I don't have enough word space here to express the fabulous time i had. in short it was a 5 star experience for a 3 star price. I have already recommended this place to people I know and will definitely chose if i come back. clean and well maintained, fabulous breakfast buffest, amazing staff, great location, safe, awe-some!

Enjoyed a one night stay at 117 St Aldgate’s with an atmospheric breakfast in the Great Hall. Grateful to the Porters who kindly changed my room as the first room I was given was unbearably hot. Also grateful to be able to leave our luggage before and after our stay. The setting, buildings, staff and service all contributed to a memorable stay. Thank you.

Everything was great apart from the fact that the room was incredibly warm, despite the outside weather as you would expect for early Seotember. We were hugely grateful for the fan left in the room which helped to reduce the temperature,. We left it on all night although noisy.

Very convenient location and access to the beautiful grounds of the college was great. Porters were really welcoming and helpful. Room extremely warm (late Sept). Breakfast was ok: 'hot' food was cold but the coffee was good.

Great service. However, pressing iron and ironing board should be included with two bottles of water on arrival. Especially for travellers from overseas.
