Historia

The house, which is owned by Viscountess Melville, was once owned by Sir Stewart Menzies, the former head of MI6, and the person on whom Ian Fleming's "M" of James Bond fame was based. While at Bridges Court, his next door neighbour in 1936 was purported to be a German agent, Baron Robert Treeck, who had leased Luckington Manor.

Breakfast is served between 7.00am and 9.30am, included in the price of your stay is a full English or Continental breakfast, which in the summer months can be served in the walled garden. There is a pub in the village that serves excellent food and a local shop. Please advise which breakfast you would like as pastries are pre ordered in advance.

Guests at Bridges Court can enjoy the walled garden and croquet lawn, there is also an outdoor swimming pool which can be used during the summer months.

Immerse yourself in an intensive English as a Foreign Language and Cultural Course at Bridges Court. Courses are tailored to individual requirements and tuition can be on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. All levels can be catered for from beginners to advanced. The courses allow the students to immerse themselves fully in the language and culture, while staying at an English country home steeped in history. Directions: From the south exit the M25 at junction 14 signposted The West, Reading and Slough. Leave the M4 at junction 18, then at the roundabout take the 3rd exit on to the A46, signposted Stroud. At traffic signals turn right onto the B4040 signposted Malmesbury, after 3 miles bear left (Malmesbury, Sherston), at the T junction turn right take next left signposted B4040 Malmesbury and Sherston, Bridges Court is approximately 1 mile down the road.
