Visión general

Welcome to Mount Tavy Cottage, a 250 year old former gardener’s cottage set in 10 acres of land. Located only a 10 minute walk away from the boundary of the 368 square miles of Dartmoor National Park and about the same distance from the picturesque town centre of Tavistock, where there is still a weekly market.

The Cottage offers two beautifully furnished bedrooms, comprising a family room and a four poster room. Both have their own spacious private bathrooms with free standing bath and separate shower.

The Garden Studios named The Potting Shed and The Tack Room offer spacious accommodation and hospitality facilities, i.e. fridge, hob, microwave, toaster and tea making facilities so you can be very independent and come and go as you please. Both studios can be made up to include either king size or twin beds with the additional facility of a single bed on a mezzanine landing.

For triple occupancy of either studio or family room, please enter the following promotion code: TRIPLE.

The city of Plymouth is just 20 minutes drive away and the beaches of Cornwall and the Eden Project are less than 1 hour away.

Historia

Mount Tavy was once inhabited by English Cricketer John Carpenter-Garnier who was born in Mount Tavy, Tavistock in 1839 and later married Hon. Mary Louisa Trefusis, daughter of Charles Rodolph Trefusis, 19th Lord Clinton and Lady Elizabeth Georgiana Kerr.

What is currently The Cottage was formerly classed as the the gardener's 'bothy' and in the grounds of Mount Tavy Cottage a wealth of historical features can still be found, such as the Victorian walled garden, the Ram House in the orchard (which was originally used to pump the water uphill) and the old Pump House (which was used to generate electricity).

Comida y bebida

A full English or continental breakfast is included in the price and taken communally in the main cottage or the Old Greenhouse. Bacon and sausages are from a local organic farmer and the eggs are free range from their own hens.

When staying in The Garden Studios, the facility of a continental breakfast delivered to your room is available.

Dinner is available by prior arrangement (please request in the Additional Information section on the booking form together with any dietary requirements and please bring your own wine). All meals include only the freshest ingredients, and some are sourced from their own organic garden. There are a wealth of excellent pubs and restaurants 10 minutes walk away in the town of Tavistock.

Terrenos y jardines

Mount Tavy Cottage stands in its own grounds of 10 acres of land, right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, overlooking spectacular open countryside. The grounds include a lake, organic walled garden, cider orchard and bee hives. On the lake enjoy the pier that includes a covered dining area complete with seating, just perfect for a relaxing evening overlooking the lake.

Very friendly and welcoming hosts in a beautiful location. Will go there again if need to stay in the area. Walk into town is slightly longer than stated on website (about 20 mins) but can be done
