Visión general

A pocos pasos del centro de la ciudad, es un lugar ideal para una escapada de placer o un viaje de negocios. Historia

Named after one of the College’s most celebrated Fellows, Professor Stephen Hawking, who lived and wrote his famed bestseller A Brief History of Time on this site, the aptly named Stephen Hawking building was designed by Mark Wilkinson and officially opened by HRH King Philip in April 2007.
 
The building has an interesting plan form like an elongated letter ‘s’. This arrangement was required by planning considerations because of the position of several listed trees. The resulting design is unusual but pleasing.

All bedrooms are equipped with tea and coffee making facilities.

Breakfast times:

  • Weekdays 7.30am - 9.30am
  • Weekends 7.30am - 10am

A full English or continental buffet breakfast is included in the room rate when stated and is served in the Harvey Court Dining Room. Occasionally breakfast is moved to Old Courts approximately a 7-10 minute walk away.

There are many good restaurants, cafes and pubs within walking distance.

Terrenos y jardines

The building is located next to Harvey Court which has its own extensive area of beautifully landscaped gardens at the rear of the building. With guests permitted to walk on the grass here, the gardens make a delightful addition to your stay. Residents of The Stephen Hawking Building will also have ready access to the other beautiful college gardens which stretch from West Road to Sidgwick Avenue.

Disfruté muchísimo mi estancia en el edificio Stephen Hawking de Gonville & Caius. El alojamiento era limpio y espacioso; solo la ducha me dio algunos problemas, ya que el agua salpicaba por todas partes y ¡no había alfombrilla de baño! Los botones fueron encantadores y muy serviciales, con información sobre prácticamente cualquier cosa. Y los rincones tranquilos para sentarse fueron un verdadero placer. El desayuno estaba delicioso, y mención especial para la maravillosa cafetería a la que se accede a través del comedor: ¡un café buenísimo y un personal de lo más amable!

El sistema de calefacción fue decepcionante: no calentaba mucho y no siempre estaba disponible cuando lo necesitaba. Por lo demás, es un alojamiento estupendo para alguien que se aloja en el campus para una conferencia universitaria. El personal fue muy atento. ¡El desayuno fue excelente! El personal de limpieza mantuvo la habitación impecable todos los días. ¡Consideren esta opción si necesitan visitar el campus de Cambridge!

Las instalaciones son sencillas, pero limpias y perfectas para quienes deseen pasar unos días en Cambridge trabajando en la Universidad o en los Museos. Los porteros son muy amables. El edificio Stephen Hawking está bastante lejos de los Old Courts de Gonville & Caius, a unos 15 minutos a pie. Sin embargo, es un paseo agradable y un viaje en Uber económico.

The accommodation was very comfortable and clean and in a quiet location. Breakfast was very good with hot food served and a buffet of croissants, cereals, yoghurt and fruit and much more. Walking into the City took about 10 minutes, I would have liked to have stayed longer.

Really enjoyed my stay here. Lovely, quiet premises just 20 mins walk from the centre. Staff were very helpful, and the room and ensuite were clean and comfortable. Would gladly stay here again!

Guests are invited to check in and out at the Porters' Lodge, situated at the entrance to the West Road site. The Lodge is open 24 hours a day and is able to meet the needs of the guest. However, despite their title, the College Porters do not carry guests' bags but are there for advice and support.

Please be aware the College has two sites, all accommodation is located on West Road.

On-site parking is subject to availability, Please note this must be pre-booked and is charged at £20.00 per night.

Please speak to the Conference Office (Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm) should you wish to enquire about parking. Contact details can be found on your booking receipt.

Free on-road parking is available between 5pm and 9am on West Road.

How to get here:

  • By Train:

The railway station is located 1 mile south of the city centre. Cambridge is on a branch of the East Coast Main Line and is easily accessible from all parts of the country. Train times can be searched for using the National Rail Enquiries website.

There is a frequent train service between Cambridge and London to both King's Cross and Liverpool Street. The King's Cross service is quicker and takes about 45 minutes. Trains leave roughly every half hour during the day. There is a 5 or 6 hour gap between around midnight and about 6am when no trains run between the 2 cities.

If you are travelling from Scotland or the north it is advisable to change at Peterborough.

You will need to take either a taxi or a bus to Caius, it is approximately a 30-minute walk. There is a taxi rank immediately adjacent to the main entrance and you should direct the driver to the Gonville & Caius Porters' Lodge on West Road. The Universal bus runs every 15-20 minutes from the railway station (stop 8) to West Road between 7.15am and 7.45pm on weekdays, and between 8.30am and 7pm on Saturdays. You should ask for a ticket to West Road, University Library.

  • By Car:

If you are using SatNav then you will need the post code which is CB3 9DS.

From the north:

Leave the M11 at Junction 13, taking the A1303 toward Cambridge. Follow the A1303 (Madingley Road) to the end where you come to a mini-roundabout. Take the second exit, turning right on to Queen's Road. From Queen's Road take your first right on to West Road. The Porters' Lodge is located on the left-hand side.

From the south:

Leave the M11 at Junction 12, taking the A603 towards Cambridge. Follow the A603 (Barton Road) for approximately 1.5 miles into Cambridge and turn off left into Grange Road. From Grange Road take your 3rd right (opposite Rugby Club) on to West Road. About 300 metres, just after West Road Concert Hall you will see the Porters' Lodge located on the right-hand side.

  • By Coach:

National Express coaches stop at Parker’s Piece in the city centre, which is a walk of approximately 15-20 minutes to West Road. There are regular services to Cambridge from London Victoria, London Stansted Airport and many other towns and cities throughout the UK.

The Stagecoach X5 service runs daily between Cambridge and Oxford, also connecting Bicester and Milton Keynes amongst others.

  • By Air:

Of the four main London airports (Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted), Stansted is by far the most convenient for Cambridge.

Stansted Airport is just 28 miles south of Cambridge. Easy access is provided by coach or car via the M11. A regular rail service operates between Stansted Airport and Cambridge and takes approximately 30 minutes.

London Gatwick, London Heathrow and London Luton are all within 1-2 hours drive of Cambridge and also accessible by public transport via connecting bus and train services in London.

  • By Sea:

Harwich is the nearest passenger port and is located 68 miles south-east of Cambridge. There are connecting passenger services to Esbjerg (Denmark) and Hook of Holland. Good road and rail links from Cambridge make Harwich International easily accessible.
